December 2025 Spotlight Teacher - Irene Joy Llerin

Irene Joy Llerin, Math Teacher, Maricopa High School
We are proud to shine this month’s Teacher Spotlight on Irene Joy Llerin, a dedicated high school math teacher in the Maricopa Unified School District. Because of her incredible work in creating a Thinking Classroom for her students, she’s not just teaching math—she’s transforming the way her students engage with it!
Irene has an amazing ability to make math come alive by showing how it connects to the real world. Her students don’t just learn how to solve problems; they learn how math fits into their daily lives—whether they’re managing budgets, analyzing data, or thinking critically.
This school year, Irene’s efforts have truly stood out. Last March, the district recognized her hard work and innovation, and for good reason. She consistently tries new ideas and finds ways to make her classes more meaningful and engaging. Her passion for teaching goes far beyond numbers—she’s committed to helping her students grow into thoughtful, capable individuals who are prepared for whatever paths they choose.
What sets Irene apart is her genuine love for what she does. She isn’t just working to meet a standard or a goal; she’s shaping her students into better thinkers, better citizens, and ultimately, better people. That’s why Irene deserves this spotlight—she’s not just teaching; she’s changing lives.
Thank you, Irene, for preparing and painting a brighter future for students and for the lasting impact you make every day!
