60th Annual Pinal County Spelling Bee
The 60th Annual Pinal County Spelling Bee was concluded on February 10, 2023, at Combs Performing Arts Center. Eleven public schools and six charter schools from across Pinal County competed for the champion trophy and a chance to represent our County at the state level. Sixty-six talented students earned a trip to the County Bee with fifty spellers showing their district pride on the big stage.
Kimora Holloway a seventh grader from Maricopa Virtual Academy, Maricopa Unified School District took home the hardware, out spelling her peers on a back-and-forth final round. Her champion word was C-O-N-G-R-U-E-N-T. Her alternate for the State bee and Pinal County’s first runner-up was Logan Friday, an eighth grader from Combs Middle School. Second runner-up was Cassidy Stuart a seventh grader from Leading Edge- Mountain Vista campus.
The Arizona State Spelling Bee is scheduled for Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at the Madison Center for the Arts in Phoenix (5601 N. 16th St., Phoenix, AZ 85016). The Bee will be open to the public and is free to attend. The venue opens to the public at 10:30 a.m. with the official bee start time at 10:45.
